What is the benefit of CPR?
CPR saves lives. The information gained in a CPR class, when applied, gives the patient the best chance for survival in a Sudden Cardiac Arrest episode.

Can I hurt the patient with CPR or the AED?

If the patient needs CPR or Defibrillation the patient is not breathing and has no pulse. In this situation there is nothing you can do to make the patient any worse. If you do nothing at all the patent has no chance for survival.

How long is my certification valid?

The American Heart Association recommends recertification every two years.

Can I be held liable if I put an AED on the premises?
In Illinois a person can not be held liable for civil damages as a result of any act involving the use of properly registered AED.

Why do I need a defibrillator if I am so close to the Fire Department?

For every minute that a patient remains in Sudden Cardiac Arrest without defibrillation, their chance of survival decreases by ten percent.
